Montréal’s Rosemont Park is reinventing urban recreation grounds as social and ecological spaces. Through innovation and ingenuity, Projet Paysage’s concept spotlights the strategic role that public spaces can play in mitigating climate change.

All 13,000 square meters of Rosemont Park have been developed to meet the varied needs of a densely populated community. From the wooden playground units designed to stimulate young ones’ creativity to wheelchair-accessible tables and lounge chairs that invite visitors to picnic and sunbathe, the site offers an array of amenities for all ages. Lush vegetation and a splash pad make the park a cooling haven on hot summer days, while in winter, the park’s paths are converted into a skating trail. Beyond its recreational functions, the multi-use grounds take real steps in tackling contemporary environmental challenges, boasting incredible biodiversity thanks to its clover bed, fruit trees, melliferous plants, and micro-forest. This urban oasis is home to over 550 trees. Engineered as a sponge park – which naturally absorbs rainfall – the site is entirely permeable, its Solecol paths and dry stream bed allowing it to contend with heavy downpours. Rosemont Park combines accessibility, ecology, and innovation to provide city dwellers with inspiration and respite.
