Parc de l'Esplanade

Parc de l’Esplanade is the cornerstone of the Pointe-Nord neighbourhood on Nuns’ Island. The remarkable park enhances the appeal of this developing area and is instrumental to its urban and community richness.

The development of this park has elevated the site’ view of the St. Lawrence. It offers a rest stop for people strolling or cycling along the promenade, encouraging them to sit on the esplanade’s custom benches or the belvedere’s loungers and savour the present moment. The park’s modern aesthetics nonetheless subtly recall the site’s history. The shapely rings of the paving on the belvedere echo the former rotunda once managed by the island’s eponymous nuns, while words inscribed in the inner circle’s stone honour its agricultural past.

The belvedere also features a building for renting water sports equipment in summer or lacing up skates in winter before gliding off on the outdoor rink. Nearby play modules keep children entertained. From one end to the other, the shore has been stabilized by revegetation. This park is one key element conferring vitality, visual appeal, and heritage value to the Pointe-Nord neighbourhood.
