Förena Cité thermale in the evening

Nestled next to the Parc national du Mont-Saint-Bruno, Förena Cité thermale offers a relaxing experience enhanced by its landscape design and cross-cultural exchanges. Set between fields and the picturesque mountain, the facility dovetails with the surrounding nature thanks to its organic configuration.

Förena perfectly reflects Projet Paysage’s expertise in highlighting the intrinsic qualities of a place, no matter the challenges it presents. The added buildings and terracing fulfil a dual function, orienting spa-goers towards mountain views and muffling noise pollution. Strategically positioned waterfalls and rock faces further hush urban sounds. The large, Icelandic-style temperate pool recalls the country’s iconic Blue Lagoon, while the rockfill encircling it imparts a natural character belying its concrete composition. Lying at the bottom of the pool, a huge boulder systematically draws in bathers. In addition to a Russian building and steam bath, a traditional German pavilion extends the cultural experience with a Aufguss, a unique relaxation ritual led by an Aufgussmeister. A smooth transition to the next step – the cold bath – is facilitated by its wide access points. Throughout the site, towel rails feature information on the international influence of each component. Openness to the world will continue in subsequent phases of this large project.
