A new high school in Drummondville offers a learning environment where architecture and nature play an integral role in the student experience. Designed to encourage a love of learning and independence, the layout of École du Bosquet supports students in this crucial stage in their journey.
In English, “bosquet” means grove or thicket, and the school is named after the lush forest that borders it. The design fully embraces this feature and blends with the ecosystem. Behind the building, the glass-walled agora and cafeteria overlook a wooded garden, which invites exploration. This area encourages calm and connection with nature. Students can gather at the picnic tables for lunch. The materials enhance the natural feel of the surroundings, where wood and stone come together.
In the front of the building, the plaza reflects a more formal and mineral aesthetic. Its beauty and functionality create an exceptional welcome. Nearby, a large grassy area provides space for relaxation. These zones are connected by angular paths, designed to accommodate foot traffic. On site, water management is carefully planned using retention basins. Biodiversity is enhanced through rewilding, particularly by allowing nature to reclaim a previously vacant lot. The school is able to offer its students a unique learning experience that takes place in both classrooms and outdoor spaces.
